BLOOMDADDY'S BIO
David Blomquist aka (Bloomdaddy) is a Lafferty, Ohio native who graduated from Union Local High School (1987) and Kent State University (1992).  He had a 14 year run as a sports anchor/morning news anchor on WTOV-9, WTRF-TV 7 and WCHS in Charleston, WV.  During that time David won 9 Associated Press Awards including Ohio Sportscaster of the Year in 2000 and Best Feature Reporter in Ohio for his “Everybody has a Story” segment in 2001.

His radio career began at WOMP AM 1290 from 1997-2000.  Then he created the “Bloomdaddy Experience” at The Dawg from 2004-2007 before coming to 1170 WWVA in May.  David loves radio more than television due to the fact it’s more personable and opinionated.
On the personnel side, David has 3 boys (Tyler 9, Kaden 7 and Braylen 2), two beagles, two cats, two rabbits and two pythons.  (not David’s idea).  David’s hobbies include hunting, fishing and anything sports related.  David loves to read and aspires to write a book whenever time allows, and with three kids, who knows when that will be.  David is also a baseball and D-Day historian.

9/3 Recap
Thursday 09-04-2008 9:26am ET
This is what you missed on the Wednesday edition of the Bloomdaddy Experience:

I talked about Barack Obama coming to Jefferson County and even interviewed Raymond Pergalinni, whose farm the presidential candidate is visiting.  He says he’s excited and when I asked him to get me in…he just laughed and said “go to hell.”  Actually, I told him to tell me that.    I also interviewed Ohio Secretary of State Jennifer Bruner about different features regarding the impending election.

Another NFL player shot outside a club.  This time it’s a Jacksonville Jaguar who is clinging to life after being shot for no apparent reason.  The one recurring theme in all these shootings is the “club aspect”, and that is professional athletes getting in trouble at nightspots.  Stay away from them!  You’re a high profile athlete with lots of “bling” on and people….or criminals…notice.  Keep a low profile and less of this would happen.  The FBI may have finally found the identity of the Zodiac killer…we’ll know in a couple of days (waiting on DNA evidence) and playing with your kids…how too little of it affects them…and how too much of it can be a problem also.

Plus we had our Wednesday douse of Political Papparazzi.

Taking a day off Thursday, but we'll be back Friday with your chance to win free fuel from the loading zone!  Listen for details!

9/2 Recap
Tuesday 09-02-2008 6:22pm ET
This is what you missed on the Tuesday edition of the Bloomdaddy Experience:

Wheeling Mayor Andy McKenzie was in the studio discussing his relationship with the newspaper, allegations of private meetings (said they didn’t happen) and his views for the future (Lowe’s development in South Wheeling is not dead!)

Radio Graffiti was a good one after a week off, Cleveland’s Cliff Lee is now 20-2 (he better win the Cy Young), we talked Steelers and Browns and Jordan Barbina, after a 7 TD performance, wins our first Athlete of the Week Award…and gets free dinner at the Gazette Grill because of it.  I also ranted about politics…imagine that.

9/28 Recap

This is what you missed on the Thursday edition of the Bloomdaddy Experience:

We interviewed a wife from California who has set up a website called “Women Against Fantasy Sports” because her husband is addicted to fantasy football.  Her name is Allison and we had a lot of fun with the topic.  Belmont County Commissioner Mark Thomas was also on the show explaining why the county is broke (bad economy), what is going to have to be done (more fiscal restraint, possible county layoffs) and why he is against a new jail levy.

I also let you know Chinese Olympic athletes were starved to make weight, one weightlifter wasn’t even told her mother was dying because officials of the country didn’t want it to mess with her mind in their quest for the gold and some weren’t even allowed to see their kids until training was over.  China is sick, and whatever gains in humanity they think they made are disappearing quickly.  Why?  Because it was an illusion.

Four local stories also made headlines.  Wheeling Mayor Andy McKenzie says the paper misrepresented him again.  He’ll be on the show next Tuesday.  A wild chicken problem in Weirton, where city council voted to spend $4,000 to investigate and take care of the problem.  How crazy is this?  All that money just to appease animal rights activists.  Let the residents shoot them if they see them.  Problem solved and you save money.  Also, I updated to local police stories and spoke again about the Mark Blevins story….in that why would someone with so much garbage in his past run for Prosecuting Attorney of Ohio County?  Makes no sense

8/26 Recap
Tuesday 08-26-2008 10:09am ET

This is what you missed on the Tuesday edition of the Bloomdaddy Experience:

We continued our college football build-up by interviewing Bill Mrkrowski, a quarterback for Woody Hayes in the early 60’s and Alex Shook, a fullback/tightend for West Virgina from 1987-1991.  Both described their experiences playing for national titles and legendary coaches.

Local attorney Mark Blevins is in the news.  He is running for Ohio County Prosecuting Attorney and it’s alleged he used a felon to extort money thru violence from some of his clients.  I will have more on this issue on the next show.

We talked extensively about the Friends of Coal Classic this Labor Day.  Some people are complaining the $15 dollar ticket price is excessive for those who only want to attend the one game between Wheeling Central and Steubenville Catholic.  The bottom line is this…for $15 dollars…you can see 3 games, your kids get to enjoy a carnival and free snacks and you can go hear some Hall of Fame coaches speak Monday morning.  It’s a hell of a deal….unless you only want to go to that one game and you have no kids.  Then your overpaying 10 dollars for a regular season OVAC game.  BUT….that money is going to the two schools..so look at it as a donation.  If it still bothers you…then don’t go.  That’s your right.

8/25 RECAP
Monday 08-25-2008 11:54am ET

This is what you missed on the Monday edition of the Bloomdaddy Experience:

We had two special guests on the show.  First we interviewed Neil Rudel from the Altoona Mirror about Joe Paterno and the problems plaguing the Nittany Lion football program.  Second, we talked to 1962 Ohio State Football MVP Billie Joe Armstrong about playing for Woody Hayes and being a Buckeye in general.  Two very good interviews.

More Wheeling Tunnel woes made the show, Gene handed out his Fickle Finger of Fate award to the local media for overhyping high school football, great job by Team USA in taking a backseat from the spotlight and getting the job done in the Gold Medal Game and I went on a political rant about money and flip flopping.  Oh yeah, did I mention I played baseball outside Pittsburgh this weekend, right next to a Civil War Re-enactment?  Ever been 50 yards away from an exploding cannon?  I have.  Didn’t enjoy it.
